Meet Our 2023 Team!
Emme Bowe
Managing Director
Emme is a junior majoring in strategic communications with specializations in marketing and restaurant, hotel, and tourism. She currently serves as a Voinovich Scholar for Ohio University’s Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Service. Emme also serves as an account manager for the Ralph and Luci Schey Sales Centre.
“As a journalism major, I hold the News Literacy Project’s mission close to my heart. Free press is essential to American democracy, and in the current media landscape, citizens’ ability to identify truth in the press is equally essential to democratic processes. I am excited to work with the News Literacy Project to help inspire agents of change in the age of misinformation.”
Outside of academics, Emme enjoys painting, working out, and hanging out with friends!
Ella Umbarger
Creative Director
Ella is a Strategic Communication major with a minor in Marketing and a certificate in Social Media. While at Ohio University, Ella has held multiple leadership positions in her sorority, Delta Gamma. She is a member of Kappa Alpha Zeta, a Professional Strategic Communications, Public Relations, Advertising, Marketing, and Communications Fraternity at Ohio University. She has completed two internships as a Communication and Community Relations Intern at Vertiv and Publicity Intern at Choice Media and Communications.
“Misinformation is a very important topic, I am very excited to help bring awareness to the issue and the great work of the News Literacy Project.”
In her downtime, Ella enjoys going on walks with friends, listening to music and trying new things.
Anna Hinkle
Social Media Coordinator
Anna is currently a sophomore majoring in Marketing and pursuing an Advertising/PR minor. She is the Vice President of External Relations for Scripps PRSSA chapter here at Ohio University. In her other organization, The Ralph and Luci Sales Centre, she is an Outreach Ambassador, sharing ways The Schey can help other students’ portfolios. Anna’s more recent organization involvement includes Backdrop Magazine, where she creates social media posts for its issues. With her involvement, she has also secured her first internship last summer, continuing during the school year, awarded the Dean’s list, and a Bumble Honey Brand Ambassador!

In Anna’s free time, she likes to go to concerts, visit family at home, go to Brennen’s, work on my social medias, listen to music, hang out with her friends, and shop!
Margaret Fox
Data Analyst
Margaret is a junior majoring in Strategic Communications with a minor in Business Analytics. She has been a member of PRSSA since Fall 2021 and she is the Data Analyst for the 2023 Bateman team. Elsewhere on campus, Margaret serves as President for OU’s Swim Club. She works in the Academic Achievement Center as an Academic Coach and as a lifeguard at the Aquatic Center. This past summer, she worked as a Student Orientation Leader with the Scripps College of Communication.
“I am looking forward to participating in the creation of this campaign. The NLP is doing such important work to help better the media and our society. I am looking forward to learning more about this organization and helping to spread their message!”
In her free time, Margaret enjoys going to the gym, spending time with friends, and going to new restaurants and coffee shops. She also enjoys reading whenever she can find the time.
Sydney Yoder
Event Coordinator
Sydney Yoder is a junior studying Journalism: Strategic Communication. She is specializing in English while also receiving certificates for Creative Writing and English. While at Ohio University, Sydney serves as Secretary for the Ohio University History Association. She is also a member of Sigma Tau Delta, an Honors English Fraternity.
“Bateman is unlike anything I have ever done. I can’t wait to learn more about public relations from my team and this experience. Our client, the News Literacy Project, is a great cause and I want to share with others how powerful and important their message is through our campaign.”
In her spare time she likes to have game nights with friends, attempt new recipes, and watch true crime documentaries.
